Styling a Black Wide Leg Trouser 5 Ways

Video to accompany this blog post here.

A couple of weeks ago I had a message from a lovely lady on Instagram asking me about some black wide leg trousers. It inspired me to retrieve mine from storage (i.e stashed in a suitcase in the loft!). I sent her this picture which has been on my Pinterest board 'Style Notes' for years and was the inspiration for my own purchase of the aforementioned!

I bought a pair of trousers from M&S to replicate this look which I like to think I did pretty successfully.

Instagram post from September 2016

The trews have been relegated to work wear these past couple of years. I work in a very casual environment and usually tend to wear jeans but occasionally we host clients to preview our products which does require me to dress a bit smarter. I've recently done away with having separate clothing for work and so I want to put these trousers to better use. This is the year these trousers will be having a bit of a revival in my wardrobe!

M&S still do similar - see here....

Armed with some more Pinterest and Instagram inspiration I had a trying on session. This was my most obvious choice - paired with a classic white trainer and a chunky knit........a combo you can't go wrong with. The trousers are a great alternative to jeans and I have to say a little more comfortable for pottering around at home in.

This is how I styled the trousers for work last winter. I love the masculine vibes - a boxy roll neck and brogue style boots......will definitely be replicating this look again this year. Not saving it just for work though!

Do have a go at experimenting with different ways of wearing your items.........it's such a great exercise. This has made made realise I need to get a bit more creative with how I style things as I tend to wear them the same old way every time! Thanks to Instagram I decided to pair the more tailored trousers with Converse and added stripes and leopard print for a bit of added interest!

Very different to how I'd usually style these any of these items but I thought I'd test this out......and the verdict is that I love it! A hoodie and a sportier pair of trainers and voila! An outfit with a very different feel! This will definitely be featuring as a 'what I wore today' later this week!

Last but not least......an evening outfit. When I purchased these trousers I went for the long length - I'm 5ft 6" and they literally sweep the floor, which is a look I personally adore. I can wear a small heel and they still hit the floor and because of the wideness the toe of my leopard print boots is just peeking out. Again a bit of leopard print just adds a bit of something to a chic all black outfit!

Have a made a good case for swapping your jeans for trousers? I hope I've given you a few new ideas to play around with.

Do let me know which is your favourite look.......and also if there are any wardrobe items you find trickier to style!

Don't forget you can see my daily outfits here and my autumn/winter wardrobe here.

Back again soon, Michelle x
