Wardrobe Additions Spring/Summer 2020

This time I thought I'd share my Spring/Summer 2020 additions with you. I've done an IGTV video to accompany this blog post (watch here!). I have been banging on about trying to reduce my consumption over the 9 months or so (have more than halved it according to my notes!). I'm trying to make more considered and intentional purchases - only buying what I need and items that compliment my existing wardrobe. After my last post I realised that is very useful to review what I have in this way - it's been a great exercise in wardrobe management for me! I'm confident that all these items will exceed #30wears.

So without further ado.......

I noticed back at the beginning of lockdown that I'm a bit short on Spring weight knitwear. I have a few slogan sweatshirts but I'm not feeling those much at the moment. I bought a gorgeous Pull & Bear striped sweatshirt last year. However a few months ago I got caught on something and it ripped a hole in it (now stitched up for wearing around the house as I can't bear to part with it!). For the cooler Spring days I set about finding a replacement for it and I found this Zara sweater. Such a wardrobe staple! I bought the size medium. Love the length of it....not too long or too short.....just perfect. It's down to £9.99 in the sale so grab yourself a bargain!

My next purchase was a plain white sweatshirt (more ivory than white but that's how H&M describe it!) Love the puff sleeve detail......it's been great with jeans and skirts alike! I bought a size small but wished I'd sized up (the welt is pretty firm!). Only larger sizes left and it's now down to £11. They did it in other colours too. If they don't have your size I've found a pretty good alternative from Oliver Bonas here*.

Last year I bagged a Gap linen white linen boyfriend shirtin the sale for £9.99 and it ended up being one of my favourite things! This year I decided to plump for this blue linen one from H&M. This is my favourite kind of Spring look.....so easy to wear. I'm even more enamoured with it now as I'm currently watching Bloodlines on Netflix. Bloodlines is set in a beautiful boutique hotel in the Florida Keys. Love the styling of all the characters.....often seen sporting linen shirts and some really lovely laid back outfits. I would recommend watching it - it's definitely been inspiring me. I'm obsessed with it!

H&M shirt* - I bought this in a size 10

I loved the blue linen shirt so much that I also bought it in khaki. I'm wearing this one in a medium.

I made a couple of practical lockdown footwear purchases. I wanted some thing to wear around the house that I could slip off and on easily. I'm not food at keeping anything mule-like on my feet so I went for some Birkenstock Arizona Big Buckle in Brandy nubuck. I swear the footbed in a Birkenstock makes them stay on better. And of course the tan colour goes with everything.

I had the Arizona's a couple of years ago in black but I found them a bit heavy-looking with certain outfits so I parted company with them (good old eBay!). I felt I was missing a slide in black though so I went for the slightly daintier Mayari style.

Last but not least on the shoe front after the success of my gorgeous leopard print Arizona Love bandana sandals last year my very crafty pal @SusieSoSo made me a red bandana pair. I do love a red shoe.....brings a pop of colour to my mostly neutral outfits. Pretty thrilled with these as you can imagine! Sue charges for materials and donated her fee to a charity which I think is lovely!

It's mainly been tops that I felt that were missing so on to my next procurement. I have some high waisted skirts and trousers and I do love the racer back vests that are around at the moment. If you were to ask me what part of my body I feel is my best attribute I would say that it's my shoulders and dĂ©colletage and so I like to try and find tops that accentuate that area to flatter it!

I haven't bought any skirts this year. I have a few already and I find dresses easier to throw on. However I did have a couple of denim gaps that I wanted to fill - specifically in a lighter blue wash. These Topshop shorts were definitely an influenced purchase......all over Instagram but I was really attracted by the style of them. I really had to stalk the website to get a pair in my size (to be fair it was hard to find any shorts anywhere online!) but I have been into Bath this week and they had plenty in store if you dare brave the shops (which were very quiet I hasten to add). I have a size 10 in these.

Another denim purchase was these H&M jeans. Out of stock in some sizes online but I also found these instore. They are the high waisted slim leg style. Glad I checked the reviews as you can't use the fitting rooms. I went for a size 12 (went with the majority of the reviews). I'm 5ft 6" and they are the perfect length for me - hitting me right above the ankle. The great thing about these is that they also do them in petite length as well!

And finally - the dress which I've already shared! Not more explanation needed if you read my last post!

Right then....that's enough wittering from me - over to you! What have you been buying? I'd love to hear.

Back again soon, Michelle x
