My winter skincare routine

AD - affiliate links used.

I touched on my skincare routine in my last blogpost about wellbeing so I thought I'd do a run through of the products I'm currently using. I'll start with my evening routine as it's a bit more lengthy! I start by removing my eye make up with a cotton wool pad. I've tried low and high budget options but with eye make-up removers they seem to be much the same whatever you spend. My current favourite is this Nivea one which is currently on offer - half price at just £1.94 in Boots.

Next I take the rest of my make up off with micellar water. Garnier has been my go-to product for years. Again I just use a cotton wool pad (currently looking into reusable options). This currently on offer too!

I've said it before and I'll say it again........I'm a devotee of a double cleanse. For my second cleanse I use a hot cloth. I use flannels and run them under the hot tap. I've been doing this for a few years now and I can't recommend it highly enough......it's a very effective way of making sure your skin is squeaky clean. I've tried lots of different ones but the one I keep going back to is this Super Facialist one which is also available in Boots. I always look to buy these things when they are on offer and this currently has £4 off.

Anything I use after I've cleansed my face is worth spending a bit more on in my book! I swear by an acid toner after I've cleansed. I used Alpha - H Liquid Gold for years until Cult Beauty sent me some Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant. Now I wouldn't use anything else. I've been so impressed by this toner - in fact I would (if budget allowed) replace all my skincare with this brand. It's one of the beauty industries best kept secret's I reckon! It's worth signing up to Paula's Choice website as you get £5 off your first order......and they currently have 20% off for Cyber Weekend - they are throwing in a trial size gift too!

I do use a serum before I moisturise at the moment I'm using Lancome's Genifique  (it was a gift). As it's almost empty and I've been so impressed with Paula's Choice I've ordered this to replace it - I've been persuaded by the reviews here.

I alternate between an oil and a moisturiser with added retinol after I've applied a serum. I love this Herbivore Phoenix regenerating oil. A little goes a long way. This was a gift some time ago from Cult Beauty but it is another definite repurchase.

The other moisturiser I alternate with is Paula's Choice Barrier Repair cream, (also gifted by Cult Beauty) but once it is empty I will be getting this again! I have really noticed a difference since using the Paula's Choice products.

I use L'Occitane Divine eyes day and evening......tsk, tsk I've only recently starting using a dedicated product for the delicate eye area after I had my knuckles wrapped by a beauty therapist! I have to say that it does makes a real difference!

So that's my evening routine products covered. My morning regime is a little simpler. I use the hot cloth in the morning with the Super Facialist oil again before I get in the shower. Then I spray my face with Superdrug's B. Hydrated Hyaluronic Acid Spritz. These are on buy one get one free at the moment!

Following the toner spray I use another Paula's Choice serum - C15 Super Booster which I think is amazing!! You can use most of the Paula's Choice products for both morning and evening routines which is brilliant if you don't like to overload your skin with lots of different products. This is currently out of stock on Paula's Choice.......which I think speaks volumes! It is still in stock at Cult Beauty and is on offer there too (discount depends on the amount of your spend).

I've just run out of my daily morning moisturiser. I have been using Lancome's Visionnaire with 20SPF. I love the texture of it as it's quite a thick cream. However I received a sample of Antipodes products in a goody bag and I'm about to try it out. Interested to test it out as it's an organic brand from New Zealand........I love the pharmacy-feel packaging.

I will have to report back on Antipodes!

That's my routine at the moment. It does change with the seasons as I wear a moisturiser with 50 SPF once spring comes along. I lay off the retinol products in the warmer months as I've heard they don't mix well with the sun. However I have opted to try out a retinol treatment with my Paula's Choice order as I've heard great things about it from friends - I'll keep you updated I find that.

Could not be described as skincare at all but I thought I'd add this anyway as I get a fair few questions  about my nail colour. I do my own nails and I am so impressed by this brand that I will only be buying from their range in future. I've been using CND base coat for a while which is brilliant and I can't speak highly enough about their Vinylux range. The colours have a good depth after 2 applications and the top coat is as good as Sally Hansen's Inst-dri. The colours I'm currently alternating between are a beautiful red shade called Kiss of Fire which has a subtle sparkle in it (great for the festive season) and Black Cherry which is a really dark red/brown shade. It is so durable, it can last up to a week without any chipping......excellent stuff I think! I really rate the service I have received from Nail Polish Direct when I've order from there!

Right.....it's a wrap! If you have any recommendations......I'm all ears! Please leave me a comment!

Back again soon, Michelle x
