updating on my basics

On my last post I mentioned I had made a purchase or two. Nothing exciting really. I've spent a fair amount of time trying to work out what is going to work best for me in the coming months. Having reviewed my summer purchases I realise I did go a bit mad (hands up.....overdosed on summer dresses to be honest!) but now I have my sensible (mum uniform) head on again. I spend 99% of my time in jeans during the colder months and so I felt it was time to invest in some new Topshop Jamie's in black and grey which I ordered (they never have the sizes in my local branches) online. Whilst I was perusing their website I also bagged the black denim skirt I blogged about here.....unfortunately that was a no-go as it comes up short....pelmet like in fact! Apart from the jeans though there was one other item of success........

I've had my eye on this tee for a while having been inspired by some of the stylish ladies of Instagram! I know this will be a little wardrobe workhorse for me, it's already been worn so this purchase is a win win!

I also popped this in the online basket. It's a very lovely little nod to the frill trend and a good quality tee for the £16 price point, however I'm not sure the ruffles are for me. It deviates massively off the plan of what I have in mind for my A/W wardrobe so it's probably going to be a return.

One more purchase to fess' up to! I've worn my Office white Dapper loafers so much over the last few months that when I was alerted to another Office discount code (MARIEC25 expires 29/9) the only sensible thing to do was to snap them up in black. It looks as though loafers are going to be around for a while and these are such a brilliant homage to the Gucci ones I thought it would be rude not to take advantage of 25% off! They seem to have a slight change of name....now going by Destiny. They have changed very slightly as they now have a piece of leather under the horsebit which I'm sure some ladies will be mighty pleased about as the Dappers were a bit jingly!

Now, I mentioned a plan. The plan is not to go too off the rails purchases-wise and stick to a theme. That theme being keeping my styling quite classic this season and a sticking to a colour palette. As you can see, black is going figure heavily as always but I do also love grey (any shade!) camel and khaki all of which I am going to punctuate with a bit of red. Nothing new really....but I don't really want to go wildly off track and land up with a heaving wardrobe! I plan to stick to basics......as after all people mostly only see/notice your coats and shoes during the colder months!

There is a little wish list brewing but I fear it will bore the socks off you.......but here goes!

I'm yet to have any success with a slouchier black jean as an alternative to my skinnies so the next time I swing by a Gap store I aim to have a little try on of these...

And that.......would you believe is it! Well for the time being anyway. I'll keep you posted on the jeans and if anything else should make it onto the wish list. Do you have a wish list on the go......any style themes you are sticking by this A/W? I would love to hear!

Anyone else have a plan....or are you just going to wing it for A/W? I'm all ears!

It's a short and sweet one from me today but I shall be back again soon!

  1. I haven't yet got a plan but have started to save things I like on Pinterest and am trying to hold off buying until I gave a plan - I tend to get too excited at the beginning of the season and buy the first things I see and like and then overspend by the end of the season as more lovely things become available! I am in need of new black skinnies, do the Jamie's fade and wrinkle at the knee / calf? I tried on several pairs at Gap and they all bagged around the knee and calf which is so frustrating and not the look I am after. Thanks in anticipation! X

    1. I think you have an excellent plan by the sounds of things....it's so easy to wild at the beginning of the season only to find lots of lovely stuff coming through in the weeks to come when you've already blown your budget!
The Topshop Jamie's definitely don't wrinkle at the knee, there is a fab amount of stretch in them but they stay in shape and I always wash mine on cold inside out to make the colour last! Hope that helps xx

    2. Thank you for taking the time to respond, you are kind. Will give them a go x

    3. You are welcome Vicky! Glad to be of service! xx

  2. Oh you are good. My problem is I can't resist a good sweatshirt - I have a drawer full of them which I am looking forward to wearing again when the weather cools off a bit. I confess to going a bit off piste with a velvet embroidered jacket though. #livealittle

    1. Oooh gosh Sue...it doesn't feel like I have been, but then luckily it's my birthday next month so I can justify the odd extra purchase or two! ;0) I am looking forward to digging my sweatshirts out again as well!
You know I thinks it's good to have a really lovely statement piece....so good on you for snapping up that gorgeous jacket! The way that you style things means you will be wearing it for years....and we will all be envious of it xx

  3. I keep wondering about these in the world of non skinny black jeans http://www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Kimmi-Shrunken-Boyfriend-Jeans-in-Clean-Black-with-Raw-Hem/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=6533743&affid=14173&channelref=product+search&mk=abc&currencyid=1&gclid=Cj0KEQjw9b6-BRCq7YP34tvW_uUBEiQAkK3svesvEBW8G9yelQOuGLNsIHPq3owF2E-s3Pg1zW3-qS8aApd-8P8HAQ - they look exactly what I'm looking for but when you look at the blue ones they all look a lot skinnier... So, I'm hoping you have success ;-)

    1. Wow...thank you for the tip off Lynsey! These look brilliant....and have been duly ordered! I have ASOS Premier so hopefully they will be featuring on my next blog post! Mwah! xx

  4. Anonymous9/9/16 17:04

Thanks for the link - I bought the loafers office yesterday!- For this season, I made a list _ midi flower dress - black loafers gucci like - a belt Gucci (ebay)..
Wish you a good continuation ! XX

    1. You are so welcome! The loafers are fab....great list too! I bought a Gucci belt from eBay back at the beginning of the year! ;0) Great minds xx

  5. I definitely did the same as you over the summer, brought far too much and just ended up with a heaving wardrobe where I promptly forgot things I'd brought. So things for A/W are going to be different ...... promise! I like the idea of a plan, its just the implementation of the plan where I come a cropper. But I love the look of the Gap jeans and yes I'm also a sucker for the Metallica T-shirt. Loved your outfit roundup

    1. I am kicking myself for going mad in the summer....and it looks as though history is repeating itself already as there are just so many tempting things in the shops already! Though once I do a proper wardrobe change-over I do plan to do a major cull so hopefully this initial splurge will the majority of the A/W purchasing done! I bought the Gap jeans this week and can confirm they were exactly what I was hoping for xx
